Journalism Activism – Libertopia 2014

Posted on November 15th, 2014 by Marc Stevens

Below is my talk from Libertopia 2014, Journalist Activism.  We had a great time in San Diego, more picts below.

We can see evidence everyday regarding how effective,  real journalism is to helping to bring about a voluntary society, to discredit the concept of government/states.  Journalism is about reporting the truth, the means of broadcasting that truth is not relevant to real journalism.  Those who control and profit from the mainstream sources would like us to believe otherwise.

Confronting politicians outside of court, such as city council meetings, not only exposes them as the criminals they are, but because we’re making the same challenges as court, we are much better prepared to defend against attacks in court.

We challenge the same argument out of court we challenge in court:

If you’re physically in Arizona (or where ever) then the laws of Arizona apply to you.

As a journalist, just as a defendant, we only want to know the facts the argument is based on.  If we stick to the the facts, then we’ll expose them.  But if we insert our own opinions, then we help them derail the interview and get no where.  This is especially true when in court where we’re dealing with professionals who are very good at distraction.  Also, in court we usually only have a few minutes to ask questions before the psychopath in the robe runs to rescue his accomplices.

We are always exposing the gun in the room, to show where they are contradicting themselves.  Just go to a city council meeting and ask in front of everybody there:

If I operated in the same manner as you, by forcing people to give me money, would you consider me a criminal?

You’ll notice that makes the point, everyone knows the answer and you don’t always need the politician to directly respond.

Anyone interested in helping out as a journalist, please call the show.

Agreed except for Marc’s comment that “The laws don’t apply to them”. This could have been better said, “Some laws don’t apply to them”. We must attempt to not deliberately offend at all times anyone. (I realize Marc was speaking to “us” and only a few of “them”.)

example: A few weeks ago I was sited for “passing on the right” on a 2 lane road. (…”shoulder” was sufficient width and the maneuver is interpretively legal according to their laws) The cop was parked on the same “shoulder” I used. I asked him if he intended to write a citation for himself for doing what I did? You guessed it… no answer!
