Poppy Update April 23 – Got a Bloom

Posted on April 23rd, 2012 by Marc Stevens

While the poppies are pretty small, at least I can finally say they are definitely not carrots.  The fact it is going to be over 100 degrees everyday for the next few months doesn’t bode well for my flowers.  Poppies don’t do well in such hot weather.

We noticed a single bloom yesterday and this morning it had opened.  I do not expect this is enough to warrant the liberation of my neighborhood by the valiant botany police though.  Exactly how many plants do the drug warriors require before they break out the machine guns?

    Those look like California Poppies
    California Poppies are perfectly “legal”.
    Opium Poppies look like this
I have grown poppies from Afghanistan and they look nothing like the ones you planted.

@ Joe Perfectly legal? OK, that’s probably true, though I did barter for some that were supposed to be “illegal”, they just didn’t grow. If you have some Afghan poppy maybe we can barter?

I was just going off the pictures. They don’t look like the type I grew. I’dd be glad to send you some seeds from two of the varieties grown in Afghanistan. A gardener friend of mine got them from a couple who were doing aid work there. I planted mine in the fall and the following spring they came up like gangbusters. Shoot me an email if you are interested.

The above is an interesting article that’s somewhat related to your concerns, I think. When I was in Alaska, I knew someone who ordered Euro seeds from Cannabis Culture, and grew a room full of marijuana with HPS and Mercury Halide full-spectrum lights. It worked really well. I recommend marijuana over opiates, because marijuana grows vigorously, like a weed, in most places. The “Ravin decision” in AK allowed my friend in AK to avoid persecution.

Also, the Libertarian Party candidate for congress in ND, Eric Olson, can help you acquaint yourself with the use of bitcoin, if you should want to use a currency alternate to Federal Reserve Plantation slave chits.

BTW: My friend who grew the marijuana had the seeds delivered to a cutout’s house. It was someone who would watch for the package, but someone he rarely visited with. He was handed the package in secret by that person, in case the seed delivery was watched or compromised. It came in a CD package, so it was discreet. He got a variety that grew very vigorously, because he intended to sell it.

This friend also had to lose the local prohibitionist scum (undercover police), by buying his growstore supplies in person, and then ditching the police on foot through a Mall, where a taxi was waiting for him at one of the other entrances. The unmarked car full of pigs followed him to the mall, but he lost them on foot. Unmarked cars regularly stake out “grow supply” stores. Some of the stores are actually in on it, with the pigs.

    More power to you.

@ Jake. I never collected any opiates when I grew them. It has been several years since then. My wife liked the flowers. They really are very beautiful. Which highlights just how silly the “laws” are. Me and my wife see pretty colors, the addict sees a fix, and the bureaucrat see a chance to control a cash cow.
