I was simply trying to describe the "résumé" of someone who has inner-directedness, whose beliefs and decisions are his own, right or wrong, and not programmed by the "masters" of the "mass production zone"... someone whose allegiance is not available for "lease" to any political or religious cause that he himself has not created... someone who doesn't "rent" his mind to others for some return of anesthetic comfort and security, of no longer having to trouble his head to think for himself and live with his decisions. Taking a breath or stopping to smell the flowers can fit in with that quite nicely, and is probably a requirement if you don't want to burn yourself out in the process-- after all, it takes endurance to fulfill your dreams.

Okay, excellent. You say you don't like the idea of "self ownership." Isn't that what I said? I believe that we are social animals and we thrive by respecting others. That which we call "ownership," I've tried to describe, is merely a reflection of the respect that others show to us, somewhat dependent upon the way that we treat others.

The common perspective of "ownership" is more of an "us against them" mindset where one makes a unilateral claim and then prepares to defend that claim against all others. Sort of the antithesis of my view of what actually is, from my examination of how it actually works... ownership.

So, it sounds as if we are actually sort of on the same page. You say you don't want to think in terms of ownership, while what I am saying is that the current meme of ownership is destructive to human relations and I hope to show others that their thinking on this matter is counter productive to the goal they use that term to achieve.

"I just don't understand how this happens." Undecided
